What is Mohs Micrographic Surgery?

Mohs surgery is particularly effective for basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, especially when cancers are located in cosmetically or functionally sensitive areas such as the face, ears, or hands.

How Mohs Surgery Works

Mohs surgery is performed in stages, all in a single visit. The visible cancer is removed along with a thin layer of surrounding tissue. This tissue is immediately examined under a microscope on-site to check for any remaining cancer cells. If cancer is found at the margins, another thin layer is removed and examined, and the process is repeated until no cancer cells remain. This precise method ensures that all cancerous cells are eliminated while conserving the maximum amount of healthy skin. The result is both medically effective and cosmetically favorable.
